Not for Your Viewing Pleasure

I thought about this video for a while before posting it as it is quite depressing and graphic. But unfortunately it is the truth.

Living in Australia we really don't experience the virulent forms of antisemitism that has been seen in Europe and other parts of the world. We do have our haters but they are not as violent or extreme as those in France, Russia and certain other countries. Fortunately we live in a country which, at least officially, doesn't tolerate racism or racists - although some of the media steer close to that line.

In any case I think this 10 minute video is a good reminder of what antisemitism is and how it has united the crazys against us.

It CAN happen here...

The War on Britan's Jews - Part One

ABC news has reported this week that "A Tanzanian-born Muslim man who dubbed himself "Osama bin London" was found guilty of encouraging his followers to murder non-believers and of running terrorist training camps in Britain". While actual terrorism has not made itself felt here in Australia, Boruch Hashem, the threat is Islamic terrorism is quite real throughout the world.

What has increased in Australia over the last few years is general anti-Semitism especially in Sydney and Melbourne. Over this time we have witnessed anti-Jewish violence on Carslile Street, Bondi Road and other heavily populated Jewish areas reminiscent of the type of incident in Europe in the 1920s and 30s. Obviously it is not as insidious as at those times but, for those of us who grew up in a very tolerant Australian society, it appears quite out of character for this country. Reading reports in the Australian Jewish News the general consensus is that the authorities are not doing enough or are powerless to do anything concrete about this. I tend to suspect that they are actually worried about accusing any particular group of fostering this un-Australian attitude as they are afraid of riots like those that occurred in Sydney.

What is also quite noticeable to me is that the general Australian population is taken in by press reports of these pushy Jews in Israel who are oppressing the poor Arabs (sarcasm intended). They appear to tacitly approve of anti-Jewish violence or at least ignore it. In the light of this I was impressed by the reports on British television made by Richard Littlejohn reporting on anti-Semitism. Littlejohn is an outspoken journalist who doesn't shy away from controversy. These reports mirror attitudes and events in Australia and are very interesting viewing. I have only posted the first of 5 videos here. The others can be seen by following these links:

Antisemitic Attack on Carslile Street

From The Age

The papers this morning have reported on the assult of two young men on Saturday night at Glicks on Carslile Street. The violent, antisemitic attack occured after Ephraim Manshari finished his shift at Mister Glicks. Another young man, Alon "Tam", was also physically attacked while walking past the shop. Thankfully, from the photos, it appears that he did not suffer serious injuries. But whatever injuries Alon, Ephraim or anyone else suffered we wish them a Refuah Shleima.

Hopefully police will be able to catch these violent thugs as it initially appears that they escaped without being caught. This was despite being chased by some members of the Community Security Group who were eating nearby. I don't know what the solution to this sort of violence is but, as Alon is quoted as saying, all antisemitic incidents, no matter how seemingly minor, should be reported to the police and to the Jewish authorities. We have a right to walk the streets of Australia peacefully just like any other person.

News reports can be seen in the Jewish News, The Age, NineMSN, The Australian and News.com which has the most detailed description of events.

Antisemitism in Melbourne

I heard on ABC radio this evening that a young man, Danny Pollak, was attacked and bashed on a train the other evening supposedly for wearing a yamulka. The report on the ABC news site appears here:

Police investigate train attack on Jewish man

Police are investigating after a Jewish man was attacked and abused over his religion on a Melbourne train.
Danny Pollak, 27, was travelling from North Melbourne to Flinders Street station on Tuesday night when he was approached by a group of men.
Mr Pollak was wearing his yarmulke at the time and was hit on the head. "Unfortunately I'm used to people insulting me because I'm Jewish or because I'm wearing my yarmulke," he said. "But it's really the first time that I've actually been physically assaulted so I was really a bit shocked and shaken up by it."

Manny Waks from the Jewish Anti-Defamation Commission says such attacks are of great concern. "I think this is a worrying trend," he said. "We certainly don't want to sound alarmist because Jews in Australia do have it very good compared to some of our counterparts in Europe and the US, not to mention the Middle East, [but] this is a serious issue."
It concerns me that this young man feels that he is generally discriminated against because he wears a yamulka. My peers don't speak of being insulted because they appear obviously Jewish. But maybe things are a bit rougher out in the world these days for young people who attend Uni etc.

Whatever the case I hope the police act quickly and decisively to apprehend these thugs. In or easygoing Australian society no one should feel like a second class citizen in any way - and especially because of their religion and mode of dress.

The Real France

I just received this email about the situation in France. I don't know how accurate all the facts are but, from what I have read, it is very close to the truth. We are very lucky to live in Australia where, although we are seeing isolated anti Jewish incidents, the authorities do not condone anti-semitism.

Once again, the real news in France is conveniently not being reported as it should. To give you an idea of what's going on in France where there are now between 5 and 6 million Muslims and about 600,000 Jews, here is an email that came from a Jew living in France. Please read!

Will the world say nothing - again - as it did in Hitler's time?

He writes, "I AM A JEW -- therefore I am forwarding this to everyone on all my e-mail lists. I will not sit back and do nothing." Nowhere have the flames of anti-Semitism burned more furiously than in France :
In Lyon, a car was rammed into a synagogue and set on fire.
In Montpellier , the Jewish religious center was firebombed; so were synagogues in Strasbourg and Marseilles ; so was a Jewish school in Creteil - all recently .
A Jewish sports club in Toulouse was attacked with Molotov cocktails, and on the statue of Alfred Dreyfus in Paris , the words "Dirty Jew" were painted.
In Bondy, 15 men beat up members of a Jewish footbal team with sticks and metal bars.
The bus that takes Jewish children to school in Aubervilliers has been attacked three times in the last 14 months.

According to the Police, metropolitan Paris has seen 10 to 12 anti-Jewish incidents PER DAY in the past 30 days.

Walls in Jewish neighborhoods have been defaced with slogans proclaiming "Jews to the gas chambers" and "Death to the Jews."

A gunman opened fire on a kosher butcher's shop (and, of course, the butcher) in Toulouse , France ; a Jewish couple in their 20s were beaten up by five men in Villeurbanne , France . The woman was pregnant; a Jewish school was broken into and vandalized in Sarcelles , France .

This was just in the past week.

So I call on you, whether you are a fellow Jew, a friend, or merely a person with the capacity and desire to distinguish decency from depravity, to do, at least, these three simple things:

First, care enough to stay informed. Don't ever let yourself become deluded into thinking that this is not your fight. I remind you of what Pastor Neimoller said in World War II.... "First they came for the Communists, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up, because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up, because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me".

Second, boycott France and French products. Only the Arab countries are more toxically anti-Semitic and, unlike them, France exports more than just oil and hatred. So boycott their wines and their perfumes. Boycott their clothes and their foodstuffs. Boycott their movies. Definitely boycott their shores. If we are resolved we can exert amazing pressure and, whatever else we may know about the French, we most certainly know that they are like a cobweb in a hurricane in the face of well directed pressure.

Third, send this along to your family, your friends, and your co-workers. Think of all of the people of good conscience that you know and let them know that you and the people that you care about need their help.

Parramatta Rabbi's Home Attacked

Bricks and cement blocks were thrown at the home and car of Rabbi Yosef Wernick yesterday by youth of "Middle Eastern appearance". He along with his wife and six children were in the house at the time and fortunately noone was hurt. Rabbi Wernick is the Rabbi of the Parramatta Synagogue and his house is next door to the shul.

"It is always in the back of your mind, but on the one hand you don't really think that something that is happening in Lebanon will affect a synagogue in Parramatta," the 32-year-old rabbi said.

See the report in The Age here and ABC news here. There are also video reports here and here.

The world's most unsuccessful bimbo

I thought twice about posting this but decided that that Michele Renouf is so stupid that there must be more brain-dead people out there who think in similar terms. I am surprised that the Herald Sun published this as a real news article - see here.

At least The Chaser had a more appropriate piece here.
An excerpt: Cue Lady Renouf and the waiting press. "I am here," she announced grandly, with all the dignity and gravitas that goes with being an ageing, racist, slightly ditzy gold-digger, "to free David Irving and to free Austria from these totalitarian laws". Flanked by the standard-issue "unnamed men" wearing matching flag-pins, she knew her place, her moment and her mission: she was there to stand up for Queen and Country (and David and Adolf).
