Peace Breaks Out in Sydney

Well, at least one community is getting into the Elul spirit and working out their differences. Thanks to Tzippi Oliver and Eli Feldman, the long time feud between brother and sister Yossel Gutnick and Pnina Feldman and her husband Rabbi Pinchas Feldman is finally over. The announcement and other related news can be seen in CrownHeights.info here along with some happy snaps of community members.

I do not know what this means in a practical way but can only hope that this reconcilliation will lead to much better things for the Sydney Chabad community as well as the general Jewish community.

My next suggestion is for Tzippy to try her hand at settling things in Adelaide. It appears that she has a gift for solving seemingly lost causes which she is using well.

Aussie "Living Torah" Video

This Living Torah video is from 20 Adar Sheini 5749 (1989) and features Mr & Mrs Yisroel Goldstein from Sydney during a yechidus with the Rebbe. Rabbi Groner can be clearly seen in the background along with some other Sydneysiders.

The last part where the Rebbe refutes Goldstein's claim that his brother has no "sheichus" (connection) with Yiddishkeit is consistent with the Rebbe's philosophy. He was always positive with regards to all to Yidden and presents his opinion in a strong but gentle manner.

Parramatta Rabbi's Home Attacked

Bricks and cement blocks were thrown at the home and car of Rabbi Yosef Wernick yesterday by youth of "Middle Eastern appearance". He along with his wife and six children were in the house at the time and fortunately noone was hurt. Rabbi Wernick is the Rabbi of the Parramatta Synagogue and his house is next door to the shul.

"It is always in the back of your mind, but on the one hand you don't really think that something that is happening in Lebanon will affect a synagogue in Parramatta," the 32-year-old rabbi said.

See the report in The Age here and ABC news here. There are also video reports here and here.

Thanks to Shoshanna for the links
